Une île de contrastes vibrants, à la beauté sauvage et profonde

Battue par les flots de l’Atlantique d’une part, dotée de plages de sable tranquilles de l’autre, l’île de Bryher est une terre de contrastes spectaculaires... l’endroit idéal pour découvrir le caractère indompté des îles Scilly. Près de 80 personnes ont la chance d’y habiter.

La réputation de Bryher dépasse le simple cadre des Scilly : l’hôtel de luxe de la baie de l’Enfer (Hell Bay) a remporté de nombreux prix, tandis que le célèbre chef Jamie Oliver considère le minuscule Fraggle Rock Bar comme l’un des meilleurs bistrots du Royaume-Uni. Cette petite île a également servi de décor au film « L’ile aux Baleines » basé sur le roman insulaire de Michael Morpurgo. Le cottage de « l’homme aux oiseaux » se dresse sur la colline de Samson, à la pointe sud de l’île.

Que vous préfériez explorer les criques rocheuses, vous prélasser sur les plages de sable blanc ou escalader l’une des petites collines de granit pour admirer la vue, Bryher vous procurera un merveilleux sentiment de liberté et de pureté. Découvrez les piliers de granit du Shipman Head, où vous pourrez vous aventurer jusqu’aux rochers à marée basse… suivez le spectacle des vagues de l’Atlantique qui se fracassent sur la baie de l’Enfer (spectaculaire en hiver !) ou goûtez au calme et à la sérénité de la baie de Rushy, dominée par la colline de Samson.

 

Outre les sentiers qui traversent l’île, vous trouverez également de nombreux stands où vous pourrez vous approvisionner en produits frais, tels que des œufs, des légumes locaux, des fruits de mer tout droit sortis de la criée et un délicieux caramel mou. L’île de Bryher compte également un magasin, des studios d’artistes et une marina, où vous pourrez louer bateaux et canoës-kayaks pour agrémenter votre séjour sur Bryher.

There are daily trips to the islands and out to see the wildlife and lighthouses.  Boats leave from 10:15am and return until 4:45pm.  The service is seven days a week from just before Easter or the beginning of April until the end of October.  There are evening trips available through the main part of the season.
