Explore the many ways in which the Isles of Scilly inspire writers with Booker-nominated novelist, Wyl Menmuir, and local author, G.M. White. In this revealing ‘In Conversation’ event, they will be reading from their novels and short fiction, talking about the ways in which they find inspiration on Scilly, and delving into their writing processes and secrets.

Wyl Menmuir is a novelist, editor and teacher of creative writing based in Cornwall. He is the author of the Man-Booker nominated novel, The Many, and Fox Fires. His short fiction has appeared in Best British Short Stories, and he has been published by Nightjar Press, Kneehigh Theatre and the National Trust as well as in Walking Stories, five specially commissioned stories set on the five inhabited islands of Scilly. He is currently working on his first full-length non-fiction book and lives in Cornwall with his wife and two children.

Like many people on the Isles of Scilly, G.M. White wears many hats. He’s a stay-at-home dad, works several part time jobs, is a member of the St Martin’s Coastguard rescue team, sits on the St Martin’s Island Hall and Reading Room committee, plays cricket (poorly, but enthusiastically) for St Martin’s Cricket Club, and somehow finds time to write. His first novel, The Swordsman’s Lament, came out in 2019. A prequel novella, The Swordsman’s Intent, followed in 2020, and he is currently working on the next novel in the series.
