Nowhere is more local than the food and drink sourced, grown, and reared across our five tiny, inhabited islands. It represents the ultimate in slow food and low food miles. On your travels around the island, you’ll more than likely be able to point to the local fisherman or farmer who’s provided the food on your plate! Watch them at work, talk to them and share their passion.
The Isles of Scilly offer a wealth of unique food and drink experiences that celebrate the islands' natural bounty and local traditions. Tour the picturesque vineyards on St. Mary’s and St. Martin’s, where you can sample a selection of wines made from grapes grown in the islands’ mild climate. Take in stunning views of the landscape as you learn about the wine production process and taste some of the finest vintages the islands have to offer.
For a more adventurous culinary experience, why not head out for a picnic on one of the uninhabited islands? Pack a basket filled with fresh, local produce, and enjoy it in a serene, secluded spot with breathtaking ocean views. Alternatively, join a foraging walk to discover the wild edible plants that grow across the islands, from seaweed, samphire and wild herbs to coastal berries and edible mushrooms, all of which can be incorporated into delicious dishes.
For those who prefer a hands-on approach, set sail on a fishing expedition and catch your own supper, whether it’s fresh seafood or the day's catch. Whatever you choose, these experiences provide a true taste of Scilly, where nature and food come together in the most authentic and unforgettable way.
