La última frontera de Inglaterra: indómita, recóndita y con toda su belleza natural

En el extremo sudoeste de las Islas Sorlingas, St. Agnes conserva intacta toda su belleza natural y un ambiente de calma y serenidad.  Con poco menos de 1,5 kilómetros de diámetro, su vecina más próxima es la isla de Gugh, a la que queda conectada por un banco de arena durante la marea baja.

Es una isla de marcados contrastes, desde afloramientos rocosos en la parte oeste, más expuesta a los rigores del atlántico, hasta playas paradisíacas en las calas más resguardadas. La tranquilidad que se respira en el banco de arena entre St. Agnes y Gugh es especialmente mágica. En el interior, el paisaje combina pintorescas casitas con un mosaico de campos de flores. Un faro se levanta en el punto más alto de la isla. St. Agnes también alberga una próspera comunidad de granjas en activo y diversas iniciativas de producción caracterizadas por su creatividad.

St. Agnes es una aventura para tus sentidos. Explora el laberinto circular de piedras de costa, descubre los singulares mojones de piedra que se reparten por Wingletang Down, o peina la playa en busca de tesoros de antiguos naufragios en Beady Pool. Periglis Beach no sólo es un lugar excelente para ir de picnic sino también un paraíso para los coleccionistas. Ofrece impresionantes vistas del santuario de aves de Annet, de los islotes conocidos como Western Rocks y del peñasco  Bishop Rock. También encontramos aquí el menhir conocido como “the Old Man of Gugh” (el Viejo de Gugh), de 3 metros de altura, del que se piensa que tuvo una función ritual en la Edad de Bronce.

Por supuesto, siempre existe sencillamente la opción de darse un chapuzón o sentarse a ver pasar el mundo mientras se degustan los productos locales en uno de los restaurantes o cafeterías de la isla o saboreando una cerveza en el pub The Turk’s Head.

Every Wednesday we have a Wildlife Trust Ranger onboard who is our guide. The Spirit travels to Annet, the protected island where the seabirds nest and then onto the Western Rocks towards the Bishop Rock Lighthouse every Wednesday afternoon.
