Aguas cristalinas, playas idílicas y una dominante sensación de calma convierten a St. Martin en una verdadera delicia. Con su icónica baliza diurna en rojo y negro, erigida en 1683 por Thomas Ekins, es la primera isla que vemos en la travesía desde Gran Bretaña.

Aunque la isla tiene poco más de tres kilómetros de longitud, presume de algunas de las playas más hermosas de las Islas Británicas, por no decir de todo el mundo. Tanto si exploras las piscinas naturales entre las rocas de Lawrence’s Bay, como si te das un chapuzón en la amplísima playa de Par Beach o si sencillamente optas por relajarte en Bread and Cheese Cove, Great Bay o Little Bay, te resultará difícil decidir cuál se lleva el premio a la mejor playa.  Pero eso no es todo: la espectacular flora de la isla, las aves exóticas y las sensacionales vistas desde los caminos rodeados de brezales que recorren los acantilados…  todo contribuye a la inconfundible belleza de St. Martin. Si sales al mar para explorar los islotes de Nornour, Ganilly y Menawethan desde St. Martin, también tendrás la oportunidad de ver colonias de focas a poca distancia de la costa.

Este privilegiado entorno está habitado por una comunidad diversa y emprendedora. Los aproximadamente 120 habitantes de la isla son gente diligente y trabajadora que lleva delante diversas actividades comerciales:  una granja de flores y un viñedo – ambos abiertos al público -, una fabulosa escuela de submarinismo que ofrece aventuras subacuáticas y snorkel con focas, un diseñador de joyería en plata de inspiración local, una próspera panadería con una amplia variedad de panes artesanales y pastas saladas, y una maravillosa galería que expone las obras de los artistas locales.

En la tienda de ultramarinos, la tienda de licores y la oficina de correos de St. Martin puedes adquirir todo lo que necesitas para unas vacaciones fabulosas; incluso puedes encargar por adelantado que te lleven la compra hasta tu lugar de alojamiento en cualquier punto de la isla. También cuenta con una variedad de cafeterías y restaurantes donde degustar deliciosas comidas, aperitivos o pastelitos con nata cuajada.
