Un’isola dai forti contrasti in cui l’asperità e l’estrema bellezza si fondono 

Battuta dalle onde dall’Atlantico da un lato e baciata da tranquille spiagge di sabbia dall’altro, Bryher è un’isola dai contrasti suggestivi: il luogo perfetto per assaporare il gusto vero delle selvagge Scilly. Sono infatti solo 80 i fortunati che possono chiamare quest’isola la loro casa. 

La fama di Bryher si estende ben oltre le coste delle Scilly: il lussuoso hotel Hell Bay si è aggiudicato numerosi riconoscimenti, mentre lo chef Jamie Oliver ha definito il minuscolo Fraggle Rock Bar come uno dei migliori locali in Gran Bretagna. L’isoletta fa anche da sfondo al film Quando vennero le balene basato sul romanzo di Michael Morpurgo ambientato sull’isola. Samson Hill, nella parte meridionale dell’isola, era infatti il luogo in cui si trovava il cottage del Migratore. 

Che esploriate le calette rocciose, vi rilassiate sulle spiagge di sabbia bianca o facciate trekking su una delle collinette di granito per ammirare la splendida vista dall’alto, Bryher vi instillerà un meraviglioso senso di libertà e purezza. Ammirate i picchi di granito a Shipman Head e avvicinatevi per rimestare le rocce con la bassa marea; osservate le onde increspate dell’Atlantico che si infrangono su Hell Bay (un vero spettacolo in inverno!); oppure godetevi la tranquillità di Rushy Bay affacciata su Samson. 

L’intera isola è attraversata da percorsi e punteggiata di bancarelle di prodotti tra cui uova di campagna, verdure locali, pesce fresco e il delizioso “fudge” dell’isola. Il negozio, la drogheria, i laboratori degli artisti e i cantieri navali di Bryher dove è possibile noleggiare barche e kayak contribuiscono tutti ad arricchire i semplici piaceri offerti dall’isola.

There are daily trips to the islands and out to see the wildlife and lighthouses.  Boats leave from 10:15am and return until 4:45pm.  The service is seven days a week from just before Easter or the beginning of April until the end of October.  There are evening trips available through the main part of the season.

St Agnes Boating is working with the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust to promote the island’s wildlife. Every Wednesday we have a Wildlife Trust Ranger onboard who is our guide. The Spirit travels to Annet, the protected island where the seabirds nest and then onto the Western Rocks towards the Bishop Rock Lighthouse every Wednesday afternoon.
