Acque cristalline, spiagge idilliache e una pace assoluta rendono St. Martin’s un vero gioiello. Con l’emblematico faro a strisce bianche e rosse di Daymark, eretto nel 1683 da Thomas Ekins, St. Martin’s è la prima isola che si scorge avvicinandosi dalla terraferma.
L’isola, lunga poco più di tre chilometri, presenta alcune delle spiagge più belle della Gran Bretagna, se non del mondo. Che preferiate andare alla ricerca delle pozze di marea a Lawrence’s Bay, fare un bagno nelle acque dell’ampia spiaggia di Par Beach o semplicemente rilassarvi nelle baie di Bread and Cheese Cove, Great Bay o Little Bay, ognuno di questi luoghi è talmente bello che è quasi impossibile giudicare quale sia il migliore. Inoltre, lo spettacolo offerto dai fiori, le piante, gli uccelli rari e le viste sensazionali del mare lungo i sentieri cosparsi di erica sulle scogliere aggiunge un tocco in più alla bellezza inequivocabile di St. Martin’s. Da St. Martin’s si possono esplorare gli isolotti di Nornour, Ganilly e Menawethan in cui è possibile avvistare colonie di foche a poca distanza dalla riva.
Sullo sfondo di questi incantevoli paesaggi vive una comunità intraprendente e diversificata. I circa 120 abitanti dell’isola sono persone laboriose: c’è un vivaio e un vigneto, entrambi aperti al pubblico; una fantastica scuola di immersioni che offre avventure sott’acqua e snorkeling con le foche; un disegnatore di gioielli in argento d’ispirazione locale; una rinomata panetteria che vende pane artigianale e altre prelibatezze tradizionali appena sfornate; e una magnifica galleria con opere di artisti del posto.
Presso il negozio, il minimarket e l’ufficio postale di St. Martin’s i turisti possono acquistare tutto l’occorrente per una fantastica vacanza - è perfino possibile farsi consegnare la spesa in anticipo presso il proprio alloggio in ogni parte dell’isola. L’isola ospita anche una serie di ristorantini che offrono sontuosi pasti, snack leggeri o il tradizionale “cream tea”.

We are a friendly and reliable taxi service based on St. Mary’s, working seven days a week, including evenings and weekends. We have two vehicles available for hire, one carrying four passengers and one carrying six passengers. The larger vehicle has two integrated baby/booster seats so children can be transported safely and comfortably. We are available for a quick taxi trip to get you from A to B, as well as more leisurely tours of the island.

There are daily trips to the islands and out to see the wildlife and lighthouses. Boats leave from 10:15am and return until 4:45pm. The service is seven days a week from just before Easter or the beginning of April until the end of October. There are evening trips available through the main part of the season.

St Agnes Boating is working with the Seabird Recovery Project and the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust to promote the island’s wildlife. Every Wednesday we have a Wildlife Trust Ranger onboard who is our guide. The Spirit travels to Annet, the protected island where the seabirds nest and then onto the Western Rocks towards the Bishop Rock Lighthouse.
