Welcome to the Islands' Regatta
What a weekend that was! We hope you enjoyed our maritime celebration at our inaugural Islands’ Regatta last August Bank Holiday 2016!
If you missed it, then don't worry; we plan to do it all over again in 2018 - August Bank Holiday weekend. Details will emerge early in 2018, but have a look at what took place last year, below, to give you a flavour of what to expect!
And don't forget, this coming Bank Holiday Monday (August 28th 2017) we welcome the return of the Red Arrows aerobatics team for another spectacular display, so why come and join us again on Scilly? We've got live music and entertainment lined up too.
If you and your family love the sea, then the Isles of Scilly was the place to be over the August Bank Holiday weekend last year as Scilly hosted its first ever Islands’ Regatta, a spectacular celebration of the islands’ unique maritime history, and certainly Scilly’s biggest event of the summer.
Centre of the action was a flotilla of classic and traditional boats that sailed into St. Mary’s harbour from Falmouth, bringing an air of yesteryear back to the islands. The nautical festivities also included a Round the Island race, a Parade of Sail and a visit from a Royal Navy Type 23 frigate, which was open to the public. A breathtaking display from the Red Arrows topped the bill on the final day.
There was also a non-stop shore-side programme across the four days with live music, nautical-inspired fun and games and sea shanties sung with gusto! The RNLI Water Carnival, a maritime-themed exhibition and walks, and street entertainment and stalls, were just some of the activities that took place, alongwith the conclusion and prize-giving of the 2016 Redwing Championships
