Scillonian Travel deal October 2014. Couple on boat

This is one of three deals in October with Isles of Scilly Travel

With three great travel discount deals and specialist painting and creative writing holidays on offer, not to mention the spectacular migrating bird-spotting season that is Scilly in October, why not treat your yourself to an Autumn break?

Isle of Scilly Travel has announced three great deals for the entire month of October:

  • Buy one ticket, get one half price on the Scillonian III passenger ferry from 1st – 24th
  • Buy one ticket, get one half price on the Skybus from Lands End (specific days)
  • Kids travel free on the Scillonian III for the whole of half term: Oct 25th – 1st Nov.

Paint Scilly kicks off 2nd – 8th October, a specialist five-day course being held at the Phoenix Craft Studios, Porthmellon on St. Mary’s.  Tuition will be led by Sue Lewington and Jackie Hichens who will teach you to make a hand-stitched, hardbound watercolour journal/sketchbook and then help you fill it with small drawings and watercolour paintings. Topics include drawing composition and the use of watercolour techniques.

Or if creative writing is more your thing, why not sign up to the residential Creative Writing Course that will take place at Carnwethers Country Guest House 4th – 10th October? If you’ve ever thought about writing your memoirs, but have been unsure about how to get started, this is the holiday for you! The course is being led by Paul Dodgson, of Writing Life, who himself has written extensively for BBC radio and television.

For the birdwatchers amongst you, October on Scilly can be a feast - with excellent opportunities to see Yellow-browed Warblers, Red-breasted Flycatchers, Short-toed Larks, Richard’s Pipits and the like. If you’re prepared to dig a little deeper, you can often be rewarded with Yellow-browed Buntings, Philadelphia Vireos and Common Yellowthroats too. Birders often move in groups or you can go it alone but either way, it’s tradition to wind up in the pub most evenings to complete the bird log!

If you’re travelling with children at half term, it's a great time to spot some of the baby seals on the rocks.  There’s no better getaway so close to home – cosy corners, sheltered beaches and the most relaxing week you can possibly have!

Whatever your interest this Autumn, the Isles of Scilly are a great place to visit in October, and with travel deals to die for, this year is looking better than ever.
