If you're coming to Scilly for half term next week, there are a few treats in store for you and your children - from creative workshops to spotting seal pups and of course, Halloween!

Phoenix Craft Studios, home to a number of talented Scilly-based artists, will be offering craft classes for both adults and children in glass and ceramic painting, fabric painting (t-shirts & tote bags), beaded jewellery, and silk scarf painting. Prices range from £8.50 per person, with some family deals on offer such as discounts for adults attending with children. The glass, ceramic and fabric painting will take place every afternoon from 1.30pm - 5pm. The jewellery beading workshops will be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and afternoons; 10.30 - 11.30am and then 2.30 - 3.30pm. Silk scarf painting workshops will be on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Places on some workshops are limited, so it is best to book if you can: (01720) 422900

If getting out and about on the water is more your style, then hope for calm seas and good weather because it's seal breeding season on Scilly. Already a few pups have been spotted on Annet and the Norrard Rocks and, conditions permitting, why not treat yourself to a boat trip to see if you can catch sight of these little cuties? The Wildlife Trust is also offering children between the ages of 8 and 13 a two-day voyage of natural discoveries on Tuesday and Wednesday 28th/29th October. Places can be booked via the Isles of Scilly Council's Children's Services Team on 01720 423680. (During the first week of November you could try your hand at circus skills too. This is also organised by the Council.)

And of course, we also turn our thoughts to Halloween! Kings of the Castle, Scilly's only soft play centre (in Old Town) will be open daily all half-term week between 1pm and 5pm. Come Friday 31st October, it will host a series of creepy crawly parties for children of all ages (4-16yrs) between 4pm and 8pm (times vary according to the age of the children, so please check!)
