Een ruw, maar weelderig eiland vol contrasten
Aan de ene kant van Bryher hoort u de Atlantische Oceaan kolken en klotsen terwijl u aan de andere kant heerlijk rustige zandstranden tegenkomt. Bryher is echt een eiland van contrasten en een mooie plek om het ongerepte Scilly te beleven. Er wonen zo’n tachtig geluksvogels.
Bryher kent ook buiten de contreien van Scilly een goede reputatie. Het luxe Hell Bay Hotel heeft bijvoorbeeld veel prijzen in de wacht gesleept en niemand minder dan Jamie Oliver heeft de gezellige Fraggle Rock Bar uitgeroepen tot een van de beste Britse kroegen. Op het eiland is ook de film ‘Why the Whales Came’ opgenomen, naar het boek van Michael Morpurgo, die zijn inspiratie op dit eiland heeft gevonden. Bij Samson Hill, aan de zuidkant van het eiland, lag het huisje van de vogelaar.
Of u nu rotspartijen verkent, lekker luiert op de witte zandstranden of met de fiets een stevige heuvel beklimt om van het uitzicht te genieten, in Bryher voelt u zich zo vrij als een vogel. Bewonder de rotsen bij Shipman Head en wandel bij eb over de zeebodem. De Atlantische Oceaan gaat bij Hell Bay flink tekeer, met name ’s winters, terwijl u bij Rushy Bay juist goed zit voor rust, vrede en een mooi uitzicht op Samson.
Over het hele eiland lopen wandelpaden. U passeert allerlei kraampjes met verse producten, zoals eieren, groenten, verse vis en de heerlijke fudge die de eilandbewoners zo goed kunnen maken. Op Bryher vindt u daarnaast een winkel, kunstenaarsstudio’s en zaken waar u boten en kajaks kunt huren. Dat zijn typisch de kleine dingetjes die het leven hier zo mooi maken.

There are daily trips to the islands and out to see the wildlife and lighthouses. Boats leave from 10:15am and return until 4:45pm. The service is seven days a week from just before Easter or the beginning of April until the end of October. There are evening trips available through the main part of the season.

We are a friendly and reliable taxi service based on St. Mary’s, working seven days a week, including evenings and weekends. We have two vehicles available for hire, one carrying four passengers and one carrying six passengers. The larger vehicle has two integrated baby/booster seats so children can be transported safely and comfortably. We are available for a quick taxi trip to get you from A to B, as well as more leisurely tours of the island.
