Op het prachtige St Mary’s kunt u zo veel of zo weinig doen als u maar wilt
St Mary’s is het grootste eiland van de archipel, telt zo’n 1800 inwoners en vormt de toegangspoort tot de rest van de eilanden. De totale oppervlakte bedraagt zo’n 6,5 vierkante kilometer. Het is echt een eilandje, geen eiland, met uitstekende verbindingen. Veruit de meeste mensen doen dan ook als eerste St Mary’s aan.
Hugh Town vormt het centrale punt op het eiland. U vindt hier winkeltjes, banken, kerken, een postkantoor, allerlei eetgelegenheden, galerieën en een leuk museum. Er liggen drie stranden in de buurt: Porthcressa, met een speeltuin, Town Beach, met een mooi uitzicht op de haven, en Porthmellon, waar ook het Sailing Centre te vinden is.
In de haven komt elke dag de Scillonian III aan. De haven vormt ook meteen het vertrekpunt voor wie op doorreis is naar een van de omringende eilanden of een dagje gaat varen op zee.
Old Town is de andere ‘grote’ woonplaats op St Mary’s en ligt het dichtst bij het vliegveld. Deze plaats beschikt over zijn eigen fraaie strand, een natuurreservaat, de Old Town Church, waar sir Harold Wilson is begraven, een speeltuin en tal van eetgelegenheden.
St Mary’s ligt lekker ver weg van de grote steden en hun dagelijkse hectiek. Wie hier neerstrijkt, wordt getrakteerd op allerlei mooie herinneringen. De kust bestaat voor een groot deel uit allerlei stukken wit zandstrand die u helemaal voor uzelf hebt. Ook vindt u er veel fraaie rotspartijen, mooie uitzichten op zee, interessante archeologische opgravingen en wandelroutes langs de zee en over het eiland.

Bikes are the primary form of transport on the island and are available to hire at the bike store, which is located next door to Tresco Stores & Deli at the Flying Boat. There are daily trips to the islands and out to see the wildlife and lighthouses. Boats leave from 10:15am and return until 4:45pm. The service is seven days a week from just before Easter or the beginning of April until the end of October. There are evening trips available through the main part of the season.

We are a friendly and reliable taxi service based on St. Mary’s, working seven days a week, including evenings and weekends. We have two vehicles available for hire, one carrying four passengers and one carrying six passengers. The larger vehicle has two integrated baby/booster seats so children can be transported safely and comfortably. We are available for a quick taxi trip to get you from A to B, as well as more leisurely tours of the island.
