Am äußersten Rand von England: vollkommen ungezähmt und absolut unberührt 

Am äußersten südwestlichen Rand der Scilly-Inseln liegt die unberührte, friedliche Insel St. Agnes. Sie ist nur ca. 1,5 km lang und bei Ebbe durch eine Sandbank mit ihrem Nachbarn, der Insel Gugh, verbunden. 

St. Agnes ist eine Insel voll von wunderschönen Kontrasten – von den Felsvorsprüngen auf der ausgesetzten Westseite bis zu paradiesischen Stränden in den geschützteren Buchten. Besonders friedlich ist die Atmosphäre auf Sandbank zwischen St. Agnes und Gugh. Landeinwärts gibt es malerische Cottages und einen Flickenteppich aus Blumenfeldern. Auf dem höchsten Punkt der Insel thront ein Leuchtturm. Auf St. Agnes sind zudem mehrere Bauernhöfe und Kreativ-Werkstätten zu finden. 

Auf St. Agnes stehen alle Zeichen auf Abenteuer. Machen Sie sich auf die Suche nach dem kreisförmigen Labyrinth am Strand, staunen Sie über die Steinsäulen und Steinhaufen von Wingletang Down oder suchen Sie am Strand von Beady Pool nach kleinen Schätzen, die hier angespült werden. Periglis Beach ist ein großartiger Ort für ein Picknick und ein Paradies für Muschelsammler. Von hier aus eröffnet sich außerdem ein atemberaubender Blick auf das Vogelschutzgebiet Annet und auf die Western Rocks und Bishop Rock. Und dann ist da noch der drei Meter hohe Menhir „Old Man of Gugh“, der mit rituellen Handlungen während der Bronzezeit in Verbindung gebracht wird. 

Natürlich haben Sie auch auf St. Agnes jederzeit die Möglichkeit, sich in die Fluten zu stürzen, in einem Café oder Restaurant das süße Nichtstun zu genießen oder im Turk’s Head Pub ein kühles Bier zu schlürfen.

The Spirit travels to Annet, the protected island where the seabirds nest and then onto the Western Rocks towards the Bishop Rock Lighthouse every Wednesday afternoon.
