On Tresco, nothing is too far and the best way to get around is on foot on on two wheels with bicycle hire from the Bike Shed next to Tresco Stores at New Grimsby. For a different perspective, kayaks, boats and paddleboards can be hired from the Sailing School at Old Grimsby.
Getting to Tresco from the other islands is easy. “Tripper boats” go from St Mary’s and Bryher every day, usually twice a day; from St Martin’s and St Agnes, about twice a week. Check the noticeboards on the islands or contact the local island boating company.
As with other off-islands, there is no public transport on Tresco. For those with limited mobility, there are a small number of wheelchairs, golf buggies and mobility scooters to hire, but advance booking is essential. Please contact the Island Office for further details on 01720 422849.
If you’re staying on Tresco - the inter-island boating is run by Tresco Boat Services. They post their scheduled services online and on the islands’ noticeboards every afternoon for the following day. They visit St Mary’s every day the Scillonian is sailing and at least one of the other islands most days. And you can also arrange “specials” which can be booked in advance at a time to suit you for particular occasions.
