The 2018 Isles of Scilly Photo Competition is open!

Send us your stunning photos and win a holiday to Scilly!

Visit Isles of Scilly has launched a fantastic new photography competition for 2018.

It is open to anyone keen to capture the essence of the Isles of Scilly on camera (or smartphone), and who is happy to have their talent showcased in our marketing materials. The outright winner selected after an online vote will win a luxury three-night break at Karma St. Martin's on the Isles of Scilly for two people on a Bed & Breakfast basis, dinner for two one evening, and two return tickets (flights or passenger ferry) to Scilly from Penzance or Lands' End.

The competition runs from Easter weekend until 30th September 2018 and we’re on the lookout for stunning shots that show our beautiful islands in their best light. So if you’re a keen photographer and wish to see your image(s) of Scilly used to promote the Islands, this is the competition for you!

There are eight categories in which you can enter a maximum of two images per category:

1: An Island Playground
Get out in the fresh sea air for loads of island fun! Perhaps you enjoy mucking about in boats, island-hopping, fishing off the rocks, rock pooling, paddleboarding, sea swimming, or trail running, coasteering, and off-road cycling? However you choose to enjoy being active on Scilly, be sure to share it with us.

2: Creative Scilly
Embrace Scilly’s creative side, and help us to celebrate the islands’ distinctive arts and culture scene – through our resident artists, island heritage, arty events and galleries! Think cool and quirky pieces of art, crafts and design, artists on location and pieces that’ll inspire future generations.

3: Escape to Scilly
We’re looking for hints of why Scilly is a great place to be able to switch off and get away from it all. That sense of wellness, meditation, total relaxation, and being at one with yourself and the stunning surroundings.

4: Islands at work
Our people, our livelihoods and living on Scilly. This category can include people, places, wildlife and pastimes - but it needs to tell a story about life on the islands and people at work. You get the picture!

5: Natural Scilly
Step outside into Scilly’s wilder side - the interpretation is up to you. Big waves, starry skies, Scilly shrews, playful seals and seabirds can all feature, alongside Scilly’s flowers, elms, birds, caves and coves – as well as the beaches and crystal clear waters (of course!).

6: Our History & Heritage
Capture the essence of Scilly’s maritime history, Bronze Age and Iron Age artefacts, or perhaps elements of our Elizabethan history, Pilot Gig heritage or role in World War II. Explore and you will find!

7: Secret Scilly
Turn secret Scilly squirrel and seek out some of our hidden gems! We think we know just about everywhere there is to go on this particular archipelago as well as all the islands’ individual characteristics, so time to seek out some nooks and crannies and prove us wrong!

8: Taste of Scilly
Tuck into this category by snapping your favourite Scilly plate of food before you scoff it down or by capturing the lovely local produce you discover on your walks. Tell us, through your photos, about Scilly’s great places to eat and what you love most about the islands’ food and drink.

How the Competition Works

The competition runs from Easter weekend until 23.59 on 30th September 2018. All photos are reviewed and a short list of the best entries from each category will be selected by representatives of the Islands’ Partnership (responsible for marketing the “Visit Isles of Scilly” brand). These entries will then be displayed online with the general public invited to vote for their favourite images in late October. The winner will be notified by email in November 2018.
