Photo Competition 2017

Send Us Your Stunning Photos and Win a Holiday to Scilly!

Visit Isles of Scilly has teamed up with the Isles of Scilly Travel and St. Mary’s Hall Hotel to launch a fantastic new photography competition for the summer of 2017.

It is open to anyone keen to capture the essence of the Isles of Scilly on camera, and who is happy to have their talent showcased in our marketing materials. The outright winner selected after an online vote will win a three-night break for two on a Bed & Breakfast basis at St. Mary’s Hall Hotel and two return tickets on the Scillonian III passenger ferry.

The competition runs until 30th September 2017 and we’re on the look out for stunning shots that show our beautiful islands in their best light. So if you’re a keen photographer and wish to see your image(s) of Scilly used to promote the Islands, this is the competition for you!

There are eight categories in which you can enter a maximum of two images per category:

1: Dusk to Dawn
Capture Scilly's breath-taking sunsets and sunrises – or our amazing dark skies in between? But don’t forget they need to be unmistakably “Scilly”, may be with a hint of island life?

2: Historic Scilly
Capture the essence of Scilly’s maritime history, Bronze Age and Iron Age heritage, or perhaps elements of our Elizabethan history or role in World War II. Explore and you will find!

3: Island life
Our people, our livelihoods and living on Scilly. This category can include people, places, wildlife, pastimes, working lives - but it needs to tell a story about life on the islands.

4: Islands like nowhere else in England
A category that speaks for itself really; your opportunity to photograph Scilly’s unique location – the beaches, the remoteness, journey to the islands, aerial views, flora, wildlife, whatever takes your fancy!

5: Scilly Memories
Strictly speaking, for this category we’re looking for old photographs of Scilly: Polaroids; sepia photos, monochromes etc. Memories of yesteryear Scilly or cherished childhood holidays…

6: Scilly on the Water
Fun on the water: island-hopping, enjoying the Scillonian III, fishing off the rocks, rock pooling, paddleboarding, sea swimming or seals and seabirds. You get the picture!

7: Taste of Scilly
Your favourite plates of food on Scilly, oodles of lovely local produce and great places to eat. Tell us through your photos what you love most about Scilly’s food and drink.

8: Wild Scilly
Interpret this as you wish. Stormy Scilly, dark clouds and big waves might be one interpretation, our wildlife and wilder landscapes might be another. Or a combination of the two!

A short list of the best entries from each category will be selected by representatives of the Islands’ Partnership (responsible for marketing the “Visit Isles of Scilly” brand). These entries will then be displayed online with the general public invited to vote for their favourite images in October. The winner will be notified by email in November 2017.
