L’isola del lusso, dell’eleganza e del famoso Abbey Garden
Oltre a essere la seconda isola più grande, Tresco è una gemma subtropicale. È l’unica isola privata dell’arcipelago, attualmente di proprietà di Lucy e Robert Dorrien-Smith.
L’isola offre un po’ di tutto: da suggestivi affioramenti rocciosi, luoghi di sepoltura risalenti all’età del bronzo e romantici castelli in rovina a spiagge di sabbia nascoste e, naturalmente, il Tresco Abbey Garden, il giardino conosciuto in tutto il mondo commissionato intorno al 1830 da Augustus Smith. Questo paradiso botanico presenta una spettacolare collezione di oltre 20.000 piante esotiche provenienti da ogni angolo del mondo, molte delle quali non possono essere coltivate in altre parti della Gran Bretagna. All’interno del giardino è presente l’impressionante collezione Valhalla, una colorata esposizione di polene recuperate dai relitti delle navi naufragate sulle isole.
La parte nord dell’isola, con le sue coste frastagliate, è il luogo ideale per camminare ed esplorare, mentre nel centro è possibile trovare nascondigli per osservare gli uccelli attorno alle pozze d’acqua dolce che punteggiano l’isola. Per spostarsi, è possibile noleggiare biciclette o, per i più attivi, affittare barche, windsurf o kayak presso il Tresco Sailing Club. L’isola è anche perfetta per passeggiare sulla spiaggia o semplicemente rilassarsi in riva al mare - non c’è luogo migliore per godersi un po’ di relax che sulla finissima sabbia bianca delle baie di Pentle e Appletree.
Qualunque cosa decidiate di fare a Tresco, noterete senza dubbio la raffinatezza che si respira in ogni angolo dell’isola, dagli alloggi di prima classe, la galleria d’arte e il favoloso negozio di alimentari ai fantastici ristorantini che propongono ottimi prodotti del posto fino al premiato centro benessere del Flying Boat Club.

Bikes are the primary form of transport on the island and are available to hire at the bike store, which is located next door to Tresco Stores & Deli at the Flying Boat. The Visitor Centre on Tresco is situated at the entrance to the world famous Abbey Garden. Along with a history room and a wonderful gift shop you will find the bright and welcoming cafe where light lunches and delicious cakes are on offer. Our characterful, traditional Scillonian cottages range from small, one bedroom former fishermen’s and flower pickers’ cottages, to large detatched houses which can sleep up to ten people. The New Inn is at the centre of social life on Tresco, being the only and quite definitely the best pub on the island! Rooms are comfortably furnished, many with sea views.
