Een echt woest stukje Engeland dat de beschrijving ‘ongerept’ zeker verdient 

In het zuidwestelijke hoekje van de Scilly-eilanden ligt St Agnes, een ongelooflijk mooi stukje natuur van ongeveer anderhalve kilometer lang. Het eilandje Gugh ligt er het dichtst bij in de buurt en is bij eb te bereiken via een zandbank. 

St Agnes zelf is een eiland van contrasten. U vindt hier rotsachtige uitwassen aan de westkant en ongerepte stranden in de afgelegen baaien. Met name de zandbank tussen St Agnes en Gugh is een bijzonder gebied dat een en al rust uitstraalt. Landinwaarts liggen schattige hutjes en een lappendeken van bloemenvelden. Op het hoogste punt van het eiland staat een vuurtoren. De eilandbewoners werken veelal op boerderijen en steken graag de handen uit de mouwen. 

Op St Agnes kunt u de avonturier in u loslaten. Bezoek het cirkelvormige stenen doolhof, bewonder de rotspartijen bij Wingletang Down of kijk of er op het strand bij Beady Pool aangespoelde stukken wrakhout liggen. Periglis Beach is een uitstekende picknickplek en een waar paradijs voor wie graag schelpen zoekt. U hebt ook een mooi uitzicht op vogeleiland Annet, de Western Rocks en de Bishop Rock. En wat dacht u van de Old Man of Gugh? Naar verluidt dateert deze drie meter hoge menhir uit de bronstijd. 

U kunt ook gewoon lekker een duik nemen of in een eettentje genieten van een smakelijke maaltijd en een lokaal drankje terwijl u zich aan de rest van de wereld onttrekt. Ook een biertje in de Turk's Head, een pub, is zeker aan te raden.
