When we are not out boating and enjoying the sunshine Carmen spends time baking fresh bread and gardening or foraging for fruit to make homemade preserves. Situated on the quieter Church Road which overlooks Hugh Town and onwards across the sea towards the uninhabited island of Samson. Close to coastal walks and you can take the short 5 minute walk to Hugh Town, with shops, restaurants, public houses and three beaches. A couple of minutes more brings you to the harbour and boats to take you to the off-islands. Taking a left turning out of Appletree you can take a 6 minute walk to the picturesque village of Old Town, with cafes and art and craft studios. Or within a few minutes you can find yourself on a coastal path which leads you directly to rugged Peninnis Headland and its late 19th Century built lighthouse
Two studio guest rooms (Sea Holly and Bowsprit) both have king size beds with ensuite (Sea Holly has an additional small single (2' 6") bed too so is ideal if a twin set up is required). Both have fabulous sea views over Hugh Town towards the uninhabited island of Samson and are pleasingly styled with good quality bed linen and towels. Each studio room is fitted with a kitchette with fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle etc and dining table/chairs and also a comfortable sitting area to enjoy the view. Breakfast options are available - please ask when making a booking. Directions
Road Directions
Take the M5 to Exeter and then the A30 to Cornwall. From here you can choose to fly by plane or helicoper or travel to Scilly by boat: Scillonian.
Planes fly from Exeter, Newquay and Penzance (there may not be flights from Exeter during the winter months). The Helicopter flies from Penzance. The Scillonian sails from Penzance and takes 2.5 hours.
Once on Scilly....
If arriving by Scillonian you can take the short walk to Appletree from the quay - circa 5-10 minutes. Take the main road through Hugh Town bearing left. Once there take the right fork and walk up the right hand side of the small park and continue for 5 minutes onwards on this road up past St Mary's Church. Then keep an eye out on the left side for a sign saying Appletree - white edged steps and a cannon on the edge of the outside steps. Once at the top of the steps we are the white house on the right.
Public Transport Directions
If you are planning to fly from Lands End then you can leave your car at Penzance and you can get a mini shuttle bus from outside Penzance train station to Lands End. Skybus runs the shuttle bus. There are various long stay car parks at Penzance and Lands End. There is a mini bus shuttle bus from outside Penzance train station to the heliport too. Ask when booking your transport.
Once on Scilly....
Mini bus transport from the airport meets each flight and they will bring you along with your luggage to Appletree and will drop you at the bottom of our white edged steps. Walk up the steps and we are the white house on the right side. If arriving by Scillonian: label your luggage with Appletree, 2 Matthews Field, Church Road, St Mary's and they automatically be delivered leaving you free of luggage to take the short walk to Appletree.
