Walk on the Wild Side

Things to Do on Bryher

Bryher: small but perfectly formed – and a favourite of Michael Morpurgo and Sam Llewellyn. This is an island of rugged cliffs and glassy coves offering up walks on the wild side, great onshore fishing and gentle beach strolls. Find the true Hell Bay up near Shipman’s Head – next stop America – browse the artists’ studios and galleries and stop by the wonderful phone box mini-museum, before heading off for a fishy feast… for Bryher is an island that celebrates shellfish amongst a wealth of local produce!

The best way to get around Bryher is on foot. Nothing is too far, and it can easily be done in a day, even half if you’re up for a romp. With no roads to speak of – and just a concrete road linking the quays to the main island points, much of your walking will be off the beaten track.

If you’re staying on Bryher - the inter-island boating is run by Tresco Boat Services. They post their scheduled services online and on the islands’ noticeboards every afternoon for the following day. They visit St. Mary’s every day the Scillonian is sailing and at least one of the other islands most days.  And you can also arrange “specials” (boat taxis) outside the scheduled services for any particular occasion and enjoy scenic boat trips.
