Shopping on Scilly offers a charming mix of local crafts, unique gifts, and island-inspired treasures. From handmade jewellery and pottery to artisan food products, you’ll find plenty of keepsakes to remind you of your visit.
One of Scilly’s most endearing features are pop-up stalls and honesty boxes dotted across all the islands selling locally produce including jewellery, art, decorated shells, salad leaves, fruit and veg, jams and fudge. There are fantastic island shops on Tresco, Bryher, St. Martin’s and St. Agnes, all stocking fantastic Scilly produce, and regular local produce markets on St. Mary’s too.
On Scilly, you can’t get more local produce than that which is produced on one of our five inhabited islands!
Beyond food and art, St. Mary’s, and Hugh Town in particular, offers the most options when it comes to retail therapy, with a range of clothing shops and gift shops. Hugh Town retains its traditional high street feel with a post office, butcher, baker, hardware store and a deli, as well as souvenir shops, clothing stores and a Co-op.
The Foredeck on Silver Street, just off the main street, is Scilly’s long-established clothes retailer. It’s been trading for over 40 years and sells all the ubiquitous outdoor brands such as Musto and North Face as well as jewellery from Fay Page.
Just across the way is 49 Degrees whose IOS brand has become synonymous with Scilly. You’ll see that famous crossed oar logo on colourful hoodies and T-shirts everywhere on the islands. The name comes from 49.55N 6.19W – the map reference for St. Mary’s Quay.
At the other end of the street, you’ll find another long-established shop – Sandpiper. It’s a haven of famous clothes and sustainable brands as well as Scilly keepsakes to take home.
Elsewhere on St. Mary’s (as well as across the islands), you’ll find galleries and pretty stalls on people’s doorsteps, selling everything from hand-crafted jewellery, bulbs and vegetables to lobsters and dressed crab meat.
Phoenix Craft Studios, located near Porthmellon Beach on St. Mary's, is a vibrant hub showcasing local artists and craftsmen, offering unique handmade creations.
