A Local's Guide

Ruth Eggins, along with her husband Graham and their three children, relocated to Bryher in September 2015 to manage Hillside Farm, becoming the island's first new farming tenants in 18 years.

At Hillside Farm, Ruth and her family cultivate fresh fruits and vegetables, raise North Devon cattle, maintain free-range hens for eggs, and keep bees for honey. They emphasize sustainable and wildlife-friendly farming practices, collaborating with the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust to enhance biodiversity on their land.

In 2021, Ruth expanded their ventures by establishing "Scilly Chilli," a business specializing in chili-based products. She also creates and sells printed cards inspired by the coastal scenery of Bryher.

Beyond her farming and artistic endeavours, Ruth is passionate about writing and wild swimming. She often shares her experiences of winter life on Bryher and the inspiration she draws from the island's natural beauty.
